Codiac Transpo - Service improvements

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Codiac Transpo has prioritized the safety and well-being of its passengers and employees.
Transit systems, including Codiac Transpo, are not immune to the financial implications of COVID-19. As we look to the future of transit service in the tri-communities in the coming weeks, we are seeking input from residents to better understand when you need service given current service level reductions.
SINCE MARCH 2020:
Codiac Transpo has had to adapt to numerous operational changes since the beginning of the pandemic. This includes fleet sanitization and cleaning, seating capacity restrictions, reduced service levels, and additional PPE (personal protective equipment). Because of COVID-19 impacts, Codiac Transpo is projecting a financial loss of $756,000 by the end of 2020.
While we know that these financial implications will be a challenge for our transit system, we are seeking feedback from passengers to better understand how we can balance the management of this projected deficit with the need to offer transit service that works for our customers.
Codiac Transpo ridership has reduced by approximately 80% due to fewer passengers travelling. In 2019, the transit service provided 2,495,189 rides in the tri-community.
The first two months of 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Codiac Transpo was trending in the right direction with regards to increased ridership and revenue. However, COVID-19 caused significant revenue and fare losses which equates to $230,000 per month.
