Consultation has concluded

Do you know who your ward and at-large councillors are in Moncton City Council? Are you familiar with your ward boundaries, or what criteria are used to determine where those ‘lines are drawn’? What duties should you expect your elected officials to execute?

As part of two main tasks, namely the review of municipal ward boundaries and the development of ‘job descriptions’ for Councillors, the Deputy Mayor and the Mayor, the Enhancing Democracy Committee is seeking citizens’ input.

To review the map with the proposed Ward boundary changes, you must first register (click on the Register button in the top right corner). The survey (see the 'Let's talk Wards!' tab below) should take 3-5 minutes to complete.

The volunteer citizen-based committee, in place for the implementation of its 2016 report, is hoping to gain some insight from Monctonians prior to submitting their final recommendations to Council:

Having reviewed best practices from all over Canada to draft these job descriptions for elected officials, and having studied various scenarios for the ward boundaries, we’d really like to hear from residents to make sure that the proposed new map meets their needs, and that these job descriptions match their expectations for their local government,” explained committee chair, Frank Vandenburg.

As an action item listed in the committee’s 2016 report, the job descriptions were written in order to clearly outline for the public what municipal elected officials are expected to do, and to inform potential future candidates of these tasks.

You can review the job descriptions by downloading the PDF (found to the right), then respond to the quick poll (see the 'Let's talk Roles!' tab below).

NOTE: These documents are in no way tied to elected officials' salaries.
