We’re reviewing our Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law

Moncton is growing and evolving. Let’s create a new Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law that supports a future as bright and dynamic as our city.

The City of Moncton’s current Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law were adopted in 2014. Council is required to periodically review and update the Municipal Plan to ensure its objectives and policies remain current and relevant and to meet the requirements of the Community Planning Act and other provincial policies and regulations. The Zoning By-Law must be updated to conform to the new Municipal Plan.

Once the review is complete, the City of Moncton will have an updated Municipal Plan and Zoning By-Law that is forward-looking and that will help ensure future growth and development aligns with the community’s goals and priorities.

The City of Moncton is currently responsible for waste collection at residential properties with five units or fewer. Owners of buildings with more than five units have the option to voluntarily participate in recycling programs.

The City encourages diverting as much waste as possible from landfills toward recycling or composting. Achieving this will require significant work and will involve integrating multi-unit buildings, commercial properties, and others into a waste-sorting program similar to the one most residents currently participate in. A municipal by-law will be required to implement this measure, and we are beginning to review the structure and content of such a by-law.

  • Share I believe that an important aspect of the active transportation plan for the city, is bike security. With the addition of all of the bike lanes that allow us to travel safely to all parts of town the limiting factor in making bikes a viable transportation alternative is the lack of bike security at whatever destination we might have. Bike racks are not enough. There needs to be secure areas with supervised access to ensure that bikes or bike parts are not stolen while people are completing their errands. It is difficult to go to a restaurant, store, or appointment on a bike when it has to be left unsupervised outside where inevitably it will be stolen at some point. There may be other solutions but three needs to be a plan to have businesses, or entertainment locations incorporate these areas into their building plans. Without this key component cycling may grow as a recreational activity but it will not become a viable transportation alternative. on Facebook Share I believe that an important aspect of the active transportation plan for the city, is bike security.
