Since 2021, the City of Moncton has received complaints about strong odours from residents in the north end of the city.

The City has worked with the provincial Department of Environment and Local Government, which conducted 19 separate odour surveys between the fall of 2021 and the spring of 2022.

The surveys identified the main sources of odour as Rayan Environmental Solutions and the TransAqua composting facility. Environment and Local Government required both facilities to develop odour control plans and those plans were completed in July 2022.

However, North End residents continue to report odour issues and remain concerned about local air quality and potential impacts on their health.

In August 2023, the City of Moncton retained the services of Hive Engineering, an environmental engineering firm, to conduct air quality testing within areas of concern.

Hive Engineering is currently seeking input from residents to ensure their sampling program targets all areas of concern.
