Recreation Master Plan 2: Facilities and Programs

The City of Moncton is developing a comprehensive Recreation Facility and Programming Master Plan. The plan will guide City Council and staff to evaluate the current provision of recreational facilities and programming in Moncton and plan for the future in a way that reflects the values and needs of the community. The Master Plan will provide a framework for the management and development of recreation facilities and programs, infrastructure, resources and investment over the next 10 years.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:

The project goal is to create an inventory of recreational facilities and programs and determine what are the gaps and assets, while at the same time, considering recreation trends and best practices. This project will reflect Moncton’s growing population with consideration for an all-age, all-ability and all-culture approach.

The public engagement activities for this project will gather information related to personal and family use of recreation/sports facilities and programs, in order to develop a clear understanding of how facilities are presently used, who is using them, and in which activities residents participate. This understanding will contribute to the development of a future framework for recreation facilities and programming planning. This is an exciting opportunity for residents to provide valuable input into the master planning process at an early stage.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO PARTICIPATE:

1) Respond to the survey! It should take about 5-10 minutes to do; all you need is a valid email address. One survey per household, please. The deadline to submit feedback is April 20. Click on the Survey tab below.

If you wish, you can also register as a participant in the Let's Chat Moncton public engagement portal (click on the blue button on the right). This will allow you to submit your feedback for this project, and others in the future. Registering is quick and easy - less than 2-3 minutes! (Just remember to include a space in your postal code.)

2) By clicking on the 'Pin the Map' button below, you can tell us where your favourite recreation activity is located... and you don't need to register.

3) Are you a facility operator or activity programmer? Send us an email at letschat@moncton.ca if you would like to complete a focused survey or discuss this project with someone from our project team!

4) If you have any specific questions or suggestions, you can add them in the Q&A tab below, and a member of our project team will respond - either publicly or privately - within 2 business days.

Your feedback will help the project team get started! A second round of public engagement activities is planned in early summer. The final report is expected to be presented in the fall 2020.

HOW YOUR FEEDBACK WILL BE USED:

The results of this survey will be shared with the consultants to start the project, as well as provided to Moncton City Council, and published on this site. But don’t worry - all responses are compiled and presented in such a way as to protect the anonymity of participants. This is meant to be a safe and respectful space to share your feedback.

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS:

Face-to-face sessions were initially planned to consult residents on this topic. However, due to directives issued by the provincial government relating to social distancing, it was decided to postpone these and focus on online components for the time being. Thank you for your understanding and collaboration.
