Thank you for your participation in the initial round of engagement! The What We Heard Report is now available and can be viewed here. In Phase 2, we developed three visions with conceptual designs based on what we learned from the community during Phase 1.
The St. George Street Improvement Plan is now entering Phase 3. This phase offers the community an opportunity to provide feedback on the three visions. It will also demonstrate how input from the first round of engagement helped shape and inform the draft concepts and designs. This next round of feedback will help us adapt, improve, and refine the Plan, bringing us one step closer to a finalized vision for St. George Street.
These conceptual designs represent a possible future for the street but are not the final plans. The three visions include:
Vision 1: The Community Walk This vision prioritizes pedestrians and active transportation while creating community spaces and enhancing St. George Street's unique identity.
Vision 2: The Mobility Corridor This vision establishes the street as a key mobility corridor for the city, promoting active and public transportation.
Vision 3: The St. George Street Trail This vision redesigns the street to function as an extension of the Northwest Trail, adding recreational opportunities and greenery.
Project Scope
The project zone spans the entire 1.9 km stretch of St. George Street from Vaughan Harvey Boulevard to King Street. The street hosts a blend of commercial and residential properties, including retail shops, restaurants, apartment buildings, and townhouses.
Background
The 2008 St. George Street Concept Plan created a vision for St. George Street as one of Moncton’s premier destinations, functioning as a dynamic urban hub for both residents and businesses. The 2013 St. George Street Improvement Plan provided a further series of short-term streetscape improvement projects including sidewalks and curb replacements along the street and a series of guidelines to give St. George Street a unique character based on the 2008 conceptual plan. Phase 2 of the Active Transportation Plan, adopted in 2022, recommended a bike lane on St. George Street to connect the street and downtown area to the future citywide active transportation network.A 2023 study evaluated the potential addition of this recommended bike lane within the street’s design, however, it was considered that an overarching vision and concept for the future of St. George should be developed instead. The planned replacement of ageing sewer infrastructureunder the street makes this an opportune time to envision the future of St. George Street and plan for above-ground reinstatements that balance the needs of all users for the decades to come.
We're looking at an Improvement Plan to build on previous studies and prepare threeredevelopment scenarios for the implementation of a multi-year revitalization project. The scenarios will explore innovative approaches that treat the street as a space for people, as well as accommodate the movement of residents and visitors in the downtown core without using a car. Active transportation will be at the heart of the options for the St. George Improvement Plan, shaping a space where moving on foot, by bike, with mobility-aid devices, by e-scooter and e-bike, or skating and rolling, is the best experience possible.

Project Timeline
Phase 1: Formative Engagement
St. George Street Improvement Plan is currently at this stage
The goal of this phase is to establish a set of principles and objectives for the upcoming design work based on comprehensive dialogue with stakeholders and the wider community.
Phase 2: Drafting Plan
this is an upcoming stage for St. George Street Improvement Plan
The team will begin developing the draft Improvement Plan based on what we heard from the community in Phase 1. The draft plan will provide three scenarios for the future of St. George Street.
Phase 3: Draft Plan Engagement
this is an upcoming stage for St. George Street Improvement Plan
At this stage, we will bring the draft plan back to the community and demonstrate how their ideas have shaped the Plan. This iterative approach to engagement will allow us to adapt and improve the concepts developed and keep the community involved throughout the project.
Phase 4: Finalizing Plan
this is an upcoming stage for St. George Street Improvement Plan
The final phase will be focused on developing a concept plan for each scenario retained, by improving and enhancing the plan based on the feedback gathered in previous phases.
